13th UOB Painting of the Year competition in Indonesia calls for artists to showcase their talents and broaden their perspectives of art
Jakarta, 4 May 2023 – UOB Indonesia today announced the launch of the 13th UOB Painting of the Year (POY) competition. Being the Bank’s annual flagship competition and one of the most prestigious in Southeast Asia, it demonstrates UOB’s long-term commitment to art in the region.
As part of the UOB POY outreach programme this year, UOB Indonesia held a panel discussion titled “Indonesian artists’ readiness to embrace opportunities in ASEAN” with leading art experts and established artists. The discussion aimed to encourage artists with international aspirations to broaden their horizons of the global art community and to explore different creative perspectives including urban culture, history and traditions.
During the discussion, Mr Farhan Siki, top winner of the 2022 UOB Painting of the Year (Indonesia), Established Artist Category, and Mrs Meliantha Muliawan, who won the same awards in 2021, shared their experience on how the competition has been instrumental in providing them with meaningful avenues to connect with opportunities in the region. Upon winning the competition, Mr Siki had his first international solo exhibition at Linda Gallery, Singapore in December 2022. Meanwhile, Mrs Muliawan underwent rigorous selection processes and met high standards of excellence to earn her residency at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Japan, which will commence in May 2023.
Mrs Maya Rizano, Head of Strategic Communications and Brand, UOB Indonesia, said “Indonesia has a rich and diverse artistic heritage that has the power to inspire and uplift people. At UOB Indonesia, we believe that art helps to enrich lives and to strengthen community bonds, forming a key pillar of the Bank’s corporate social responsibility programme. Though the UOB POY competition, we hope to foster greater appreciation and understanding of the arts, while providing a platform for Indonesian artists to showcase their talent and fuel their passion for art.”

Programme identity design for 13th UOB Painting of the Year competition
The programme identity design for the 2023 UOB Painting of the Year competition was inspired by the 2022 UOB Southeast Asian Painting of the Year winning artwork, Dystopia by Thai artist Chomrawi Suksom. The evolving sphere symbolises our world in a constant state of change and renewal, represented by different cultures and identities. This is aligned with the Bank’s long-term commitment to constantly evolve and stay relevant, and to do right by the community. In line with UOB’s Purpose to build the future of ASEAN, the flagship competition will expand its reach and launch in Vietnam this year.
